Advance Level: Nocturne in F Minor,, op. 55, no. 1 by F. Chopin
Great work mastering this complex Prokofiev. Nice work bringing out the melody wherever you could find it and giving it a mysterious mood by keeping it controlled and light. Bravo on an excellent performance. You bring so much skill, hard work, thoughtfulness, and musicality to your playing. I truly enjoyed listening to your performance. Bravo!
Advance Level: Visions Fugitives Op.22 No.1 by S. Prokofiev
Great work mastering this complex Prokofiev. Nice work bringing out the melody wherever you could find it and giving it the mysterious mood by keeping it controlled and light. Bravo on an excellent performance. You bring so much skill, hard work, thoughtfulness, and musicality to your playing. I truly enjoyed listening to your performance. Bravo!
Level 8: Sonata Hob. XVI 35 III by F. J. Haydn
The Classical style is very evident. Nice gestures. Great lifts. Just be careful with your forte sound. It was borderline harsh in some places. You have great fingers. Very fine articulations. Let’s infuse your performance with more dynamic nuances within the phrase. Seek ways to taper off the phrases more elegantly. Fabulous L.H. technique on display here; you navigated through some very tricky passages. Your varied articulations brought out the humor of Haydn’s writing. Well-done.
Level 8: Sonatina (1959) in C Major, I by A. Khachaturian
I liked the energy and the bounce. Very humorous approach to playing the opening section. Good job hammering out the accents. You are following the score very faithfully. For the dreamy B section, I would play just a tad slower, and utilize more rubato. Sharpen the contrast. It’s like moments of dream and moments of awake. Play around with that idea. Very seamless transition back to the A section. You are playing with great security. Lots of fine details are present. Kudos to you. Congratulations for such a well-prepared program. You did yourself, your parents, and your teacher proud.
Level 8: Technique
Textbook scales, modes, and whole-tone scale. Wonderful speed and clear legato. Beautiful pedaling for the modulation progressions. Blazing arpeggios. Accurate polyrhythm. Your technique was splendid. Well-prepared.
Level 6: Neapolitan Song, op. 39, no. 18 by P. I. by Tchaikovsky
A captivating piece with such a bouncing tone! Very nice clean touching patterns at the opening. Try for a smooth transition back to a tempo section. Good balance with two hands, even touch with good dynamic contrasts. Solid performance!
Level 6: Sonata in G Major, L. 79 by D. Scarlatti
You did an excellent job of communicating the intent of this piece by keeping going smooth throughout. You had a nice dynamic arc leading up to a central high point. Good pedaling and balance of melody and accompaniment. I heard many good dynamic voices in this piece.
Level 4: Ballade, op. 100, no. 15 by J. F. by Burgmüller
Wow, excellent technique in this piece. Your fast sixteenth notes were just so clear and separated, not smashed together. Wonderful job in lifting up those fingers for the quick notes. Wonderful attention to the dynamics. A very energetic and incredible performance!
Level 4: Sonatina, Op.27, No.18 by D. by Kabalevsky
Awesome performance! I love the rhythmic accuracy of your playing, every note and rest was just so precise. Dynamics were spot on and brought a beautiful color to the piece. It was such a pleasure to hear you play today, Keep up the good work – Bravo!
Level 4: Sonatina in G Major, op. 36, no. 2, III. Rondo by M. Clementi
What a cheerful expression! The passagework is clear and even. The tone quality is full and singing. Good dynamics. Solid memorization. You are musically involved. This is a very enjoyable performance. Bravo!
Level 2: sight reading
100% on the note reading, rhythm and articulation! Try to include the dynamics next time. You used your study period wisely, good for you!
Level 2: The Wild Horseman Op.68, No.8, by Rober Schumann
Very brisk tempo–I can vividly picture a man riding a horse. Super slurs and staccatos again. When the L.H. has the melody, can the R.H. be lighter? Continue to work on balance between hands. Also, your staccato chords were a bit abrupt. Try lengthening them so they don’t lift so soon, especially at the end of a phrase. For the Romantic era, taper off phrases more elegantly unless the phrase ends on a crescendo. Well-learned and well-memorized. Kudos.
